Yes. The internal four-point harness locks your dog into place. During hard braking or aggressive cornering, your dog's weight shifts with the pack—in the same direction as the rider—and they cannot eject forward or sideways. We always recommend correctly adjusting the internal support harness before each ride.

The Booster Block is an optional platform insert that raises your dog's standing position by 3 inches. Dogs that are the right weight but too short to comfortably rest their front legs on the carrier's support ledge benefit from a Booster Block. The Booster Block is sold separately and designed to lay on the internal base of the carrier.

Most dogs adapt within 3–5 short sessions. Start by placing the empty PACKMATE on the ground and letting your dog investigate it at their own pace, rewarding curiosity with treats. Progress to placing your dog inside the stationary carrier, then wearing it indoors. Next, try short 5-minute rides at walking pace on a quiet road. Gradually increase speed and duration only when your dog is visibly relaxed. Dogs that are naturally calm and food-motivated adapt fastest. Never force a stressed or reluctant dog into the carrier — patience here pays off for years of safe riding together.

No. The internal four-point harness physically prevents your dog from exiting the carrier independently. Even if a dog panics or attempts to jump, the harness connections maintain their position inside the pack.

Beyond the PACKMATE, we recommend:

(1) Dog goggles (doggles) — essential to protect your dog's eyes from debris, insects, and sustained wind at speed.

(2) Ear protection — for highway riding, sustained wind and engine noise can exceed safe levels for dogs. A snug-fitting dog balaclava provides warmth and moderate sound dampening. There are some companies on the market that offer ear protection for dogs.

The outer shell is made of synthetic leather and nylon that handles light rain and road splash without issue. Most dogs handle brief rain exposure fine, but sustained cold and wet riding is stressful for most animals. If the weather turns, pull over. Your dog will tell you with their body language long before it becomes a problem.

The PACKMATE comes with a 1-year manufacturer's warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship, including stitching, zippers, buckles, and hardware. The warranty is automatically activated at the time of purchase — no registration required.
